Peter Taylor's a Southern Writer.  I once heard him talk about handwriting 
his stories in a notebook while in bed.  At least one of his published 
stories looks like a free verse poem because it preserves the resultant 
line-by-line structure.
     
In the Miro District and Other Stories is one of his most respected books.
