Fellow D.C.er  Chris's conclusion reminds me of an idea that got kicked
around a few years back. Some  literary light had stated (once again) that
FICTION IS DEAD, and the reason is: because "real life" is presently so
outlandish. (or something to that effect) 

My own feeling is that it's never too late to give "reality" one more turn
of the screw.
