For those in Minneapolis, Paul Siskind (who kindly contributed comments on
Carmina Burana several weeks ago) will have a composition premiered by the
Minnesota Orchestra on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday of this week. Also
on the program are works by Tchaikowsky, Ravel, and Barber, who
coincidentally are all composers of some of the world's most notoriously
"sad" works.
For those in DC, there'll be a screening of "My Knees Were Jumping" at the
Holocaust Museum on the evening of February 6. It deals with the
Kindertransport, which brought about 10,000 kids (Jewish and otherwise) out
of Nazi-occupied and Nazi-threatened territories and into the UK (no one
else would take them) in the months before WWII.
ObDisclosures: Paul's a pal; I worked a little bit on the documentary.
