Thanks for a very good post, and it reminds me to recommend another novel
about that moment in history, _Stallion Gate_ by the underrated Martin
Cruz Smith. He has a certain genius for endings, and this novel about
the Trinity A-bomb test ends with the main character (a Navajo working as
a security officer at Los Alamos) running as fast as he can through the
pre-dawn dark, away from the tower with the Bomb on top of it, and the
last sentence gives us the sight of his elongated shadow suddenly
appearing on the ground in front of him.
