I find that I must reply to myself in order to beg your/my pardon for 
my naivetee. Yes, of course Roger, the fuckin' idiot, is fuckin' 
jealous. So jealous that he does the unforgivable and breaks the 
first motto of my sig the other way around from other Pynchon 
characters: Keep cool, but care. Roger has cared all along, but in 
the end, no longer keeps cool, unlike other Pynchon characters, who 
keep cool, but disassociate and lose their passion (if they ever had 
any). 

(Not so sure about that Vineland, what with parental issues in 
it and all.)
