Leaves me that way too, John.

But do we HAVE to be quite so literal about the meaning of Christmas?

In the occurring paragraph (p. 126), Roger rhapsodizes quite unrogerlike
on the virtues of a certain swell young lady name of Jessica. "Suddenly
there was a beach, the unpredictable . . . new life."

For Roger,. the 25 December now only days away IS "the seventh Christmas
of the War," because the SIXTH was plainly JESSICA HERSELF.

The way I want it to be.
