Really enjoyed the responses to my conuindrum.
Redbug--I'd forgotten about that time warp in V. Thanks for mentioning it. Does it lend
any credence to my GR speculation?
Henry M--yes, the *if* is *what if the war hadn't ended*
Craig C.--I'm not convinced by my theory either, but it beats Weisenburger's
*explanation.* Thanks for those interesting references. Tried to read the Dick book long
time ago. Gonna go get it from the liberry now. I had forgotten how comix and *graphic
novels* (a term which always sounds like someone saying *cinema* instead of
*movies*)have often played with the tactic;
Paul D.'s remarks on SF seem quite reasonable. GR clearly is, among an infinity of other
things, a great SF novel by any definition of the genre. (no genre-elitist I, BTW, I love 'em
all).
 My favorite text saving strategy comes from Paul M:
<snip>
>For Roger,. the 25 December now only days away IS "the seventh Christmas
>of the War," because the SIXTH was plainly JESSICA HERSELF.

>The way I want it to be.

I guess it's the way I'd like to see it too, Paul, but still, none of these explanations really
*works*, does it?

I'd be happy to hear an argument that the *alternate universe* idea is clearly wrong; until
I do, it's gonna keep bugging (redbugging?) me.

john (knowing even more clearly now why he digs this fucking list so much) m
