Mebbe a less-ambitious PSYCHIATRIC solution would be sufficient. (William of
Occam and all that)

Am thinking of how Roger discovers traces of Jessica on his person 
when in fact he hasn't seen her in a while (p. 124).

Simplest explanation is the classic multiple-personality syndrome. The one
noticing the hairs isn't the same one they rubbed off on.

This could have a bearing on ANOTHER problem.

Although we are all rooting for our libidinous lovers, you
have to admit that outside of bed there's a lot problematic
in their relationship. Roger has pretty-well failed in communicating
his sensitive side to Jessica. His suddenly-there-was-a-beach-etc.-etc.
appreciation of her in the seventh Christmas paragraph (p. 126), for
example. She's actually AFRAID of him. Sometimes  he seems to have
no inkling at all of her depths, seeing only the flibbertigibbit who
doesn't have a clue as to what his scientific friends are talking about.
(Maybe she's a splitto also.) Anyway, the bottom line as we all know
from that famous movie is that multiple personalities lead to poor
communication and don't make for happy mariages--until, that is, the
kindly old pychiatrist steps in and lays it all out on the table. With the
right kind of professional help this marriage might have been saved. But
remember, foax, there's a war on.

We can take this even further. (if we really want to)

Just maybe that cute meet (out on the roadway to wherever it was) wasn't
REALLY their initial meeting at all. Maybe Jessica already knew one of the
Rogers,
only it was sort of dark and she didn't recognize him.

Maybe Roger is really Beaver. Would help explain those pesky hairs.
