Speaking of Erich von Däniken, he certainly is a whacko, but that does 
not mean that there isn't anything interesting in what he has dug up. 
Shit, this guy even had his own tv show in Germany for a while, though 
at an obscure time in the morning or so.

There's another author along that vein, though much more to be taken 
serious. His name is Johannes von Buttlar (gee, another noble man. I 
guess they do need some occupation;-), check von Puttkamer, von Braun 
and the likes). No, seriously, von Buttlar has very interesting material 
and he's certainly worth considering. Recommended.
