By the way, Blacksburg may be a small town, but hey, so is
Hannibal. Back
of the small-town librarian shit, lest ye wish them to be
replaced by am
radio callers from Queens. I don't remember when being a
librarian became
an inherent sign of ignorance or inexperience (or when being
published in
_Esquire_ made one an authority on small towns). Civility,
gents.

I say:
The real deal is that librarians have a low tolerance for b*ll sh*t
and lies so when a b*ll sh*t*r and liar gets caught in his lies he turns
hostile. There are not to many, if any intelligent people who would make
fun of the profession of librarianship. I'd be willing to bet for
example that Pynchon, DF Wallace, or just about any author mentioned on this
list would have more respect for any librarian (even a small town
librarian) than they would for any hack writer who tries to make a living
from a relationship with a man he knew all to vaguelly over thirty years
ago.
