windbaggery on pynchon-l

So I was having a nic fit in the library while literally thumbing through
the latest pynchon-l-digest, all 51K of it, thumbing because I was on an
old terminal with Pine software (space-bar = page-down), and a few things
came to mind:

-- Doug Millison: please quote selectively when responding.

-- if this list is the internet equivalent of a cocktail party, sometimes
it feels like one described by Proust -- where the conversation gets
drowned out by belaboured attempts at humour and by windbags who drone on
interminably in a desparate and transparent attempt to attract attention to
themselves.

I went outside and subdued the nicotine craving and the inchoate rage
occasioned by the digest and exacerbated by the craving, but still, I must
confess to entertaining the thought of unsubscribing.

Regards,
Paul
