I'm late in forming intelligent responses to various posts, due to my short
vacation in Hell.A (I'll get to you, Jester ol' pal), but I had to clip this
and send. Most of your objections to TRP's lit seem based on the above
self-referential axiom, which is all I pointed out in my "cute . . .
double-speak." Your dissatisfaction with Vineland stems from its supposed
inauthenticity (you abstain from saying it's "bad writing" but the damage is
done; the only reason it would be bad is because it doesn't jibe with your
impressions of the period, the dialects, blah). What I said was using this
model as a basis for judgments on anything (not only lit) is self-absorbed.
What I don't get is how you expect your personal histories to be of any help
to the rest of us who think that you might be off.
