I don't think we're missing either; it's just that inevitably we murder to
dissect. We analyze, diachronically, Pynchonian effects that are magical
precisely because he pulls them off synchronically. [NB: that last sentence
may or may not make more sense if you swap the adverbs.]
If we were skilled enough to express all the gravity and all the comedy at
the same time, we'd *be* TRP, no?
