This, oddly enough, is a point made during Pynchon's Esquire interview
of Lotion. As I recall, right at the moment when the band realizes that
the cycle will eventually speed up until it swallows itself, one of the
members sez "Yeah, but what happens when...?" and then Pynchon inserts a
truly well-done and Pynchonesque touch
"_a_look_of_unaccustomed_darkness_passes_over_the_faces_of_the_band_."
Right there, that was the highlight of the article for me. Then, someone
else follows up with "Naah... ten years for now, we'll just be doing
what we did five minutes ago."
