GR soundtrack

Robert Fripp on a soundtrack to GR? Please, no, anything but. Though I love
his work on 'Heroes' and Sylvian's _Gone to Earth_, I've just never
understood the appeal of his KC or solo work -- stultifyingly monotonous.

I'd rather hear big chunks of Shostakovich, particularly the 15th Symphony
(composed in 1971 -- how's *that* for 70's music?), with its distorted,
almost sardonic, continually ambiguous quotes from Rossini & Wagner, and
its spectral 12-tone cello solo in the slow movement -- a peculiarly
Russian combination and diffraction of both Italian and Austro-German
musical traditions, haunted by paralysis and decay, both personal and
cultural.

Just a thought,
Paul
