I read that 80% of rap sales are to white teenagers.  In a way, it's an 
old story, white kids trying to get some of that ghetto cool; I bet more 
than half of bebop record sales in the 50's were to whitefolks.  But the 
difference is that the bebop, wasn't being written for a white audience, 
and a lot of the rap is.
