one thing i forgot in my little rant- when you talk about Men in Black
and its various literary inspirations/ ripoffs, what about the
quasi-parallels between it and the Illuminatus Trilogy? That the
affairs of mortals are but scorecards in weird Illuminati games?

I guess the thing that reminded me the most of the trilogy was the
way that tabloids became completely true sources of apocalyptic
information... so true that of course people thought they were
false. In the illuminatus! trilogy, fnords appear in newspapers
without people noticing... the whole "pray for st. jude"
thing... um.... i guess this is also a theme picked up from sherlock
holmes and a whole bunch of other shit/ maybe just a hero
archetype... the hero will see the codes revealed like a wordperfect
document... codes that ordinary mortals might've overlooked. odysseus
had to be chained to the mast but he heard what the sirens
said... (and i've heard tell it had a little to do with some really
buff photos they'd taken of pynchon giving some boss head to a man
named Jules...)

thank you, and good night.
