Academics & others might be interested in a session I'm offering en-
titled "Pynchon after Mason & Dixon." Suggestions, abstracts, and papers are
all welcome, as long as they come by September 15. The session will be part
of the annual meeting of the Northeast Modern Language Association (NEMLA),
which meets in Baltimore next year, on April 17-18.

In recent years attendence has been running a couple thousand. You have
to be a member--i.e. pay thirty-five bucks, unless you're unemployed, retired,
or cheap (so claim to be in either of these categories and pay less). And you
have to pay a conference fee of another thirty-five bucks. It costs to be a
professional. But if you want to pay, and aren't an academic, fine. Nobody
cares.

The only thing I care about is getting the best papers possible for
the best possible session. Whether you've got an idea or not, mark your calendar
and come to the session if you'll be in the area. Here's my address if you
want to send anything rather than e-mail:
