A comment on the teaching of writ(h)ing

During the past few days, there was a thread on the teaching of
writing in college. I showed some of this to a fellow who often
dips his snout in IPA or Guinness (as the clime warrants) with me.
He teaches 19th c Brit Lit and writing at a local "U" and has this
say about that.
