The movie of _Black Robe_ was very good, saw it several years ago and I
don't recall a lot of details. . .the scene where the guy (one of the
Jesuits?) gets his finger cut off with an oyster shell still haunts me.
Smallpox (or another infectious killer?) played a role--don't remember if
it was deliberate or not.  Fascinating recreation of a long-gone time.
