Stop spamming pynchon-l with irrelevant stuff (was Fw: READ and LEARN)

This is exactly the kind of post which has no place in this forum, IMHO. Yes,
there are many terrible things in the world, and drunk driving is one of them,
and we are all deeply concerned about it, but that doesn't mean that it's an
appropriate topic in every forum on the Net. The same applies to sugestion to
vote "no" to rec.music.white-power. We all agree that Nazis are terrible and
should be hounded to the ends of the Earth, but there are lots of other causes
that are also very worthy. A list, in no particular order:
Save Headwaters forest!
Stop extinction of endangered [species|big cats|orchids]!
Buckle Up, America!
Save the whales
Wear a condom when you buttfuck, and use a clean needle to shoot up!
If you have young children, test your house for lead paint.
Stop the melting of the polar icecaps.
People are killing eachother in [Serbia|Somalia|Zaire|Kasmir|...]!
Acid smog is eroding [Notre Dame|the Reclining Buddha of Wat Po]!
These are all issues that I personally feel are very important. We could
easily devote this list full-time to those issues, and spend our entire lives
talking about them, BUT WE WON'T DO THAT BECAUSE IF THOSE ARE THINGS WE WANT
TO TALK ABOUT, THERE ARE OTHER FORUMS WHICH ARE MORE APPROPRIATE.
In fact, posting irrelevant things is a form of censorship, because it makes a
particular forum less usable for communication. The Scientologists tried this
in a big way on the scientology newsgroup. Spam impairs communications.
Please don't think that I don't take the issues on that list seriously and
personally. My great grandparents were murdered by the Nazis at Auschwitz,
and as a motorcyclist, drunk drivers are a significant threat to my life. But
I didn't subscribe to pynchon-l to talk about those things.
