Foax:

Just finished off Kim Stanley Robinson's Three
Californias Trilogy (The Wild Shore, The Gold Coast and
Pacific Edge), with three distinctly different views of the
future of that paradise by the sea, southern California.
Sumpin that caught my eye in the middle of The Gold Coast
- which is about a drug-drenched future, mixed in with
terrorist activities against the military industrial complex
- and might be of interest to this list:

"That'd be one way to find out, sure. But it would be
dangerous, I mean some of you might just disappear."
Jim feels his throat and stomach take a big swallow.
Disappear?
His paranoia quotient soars into the megapynchons, his
understanding of his sabotage adventure with Arthur trapdoors
out from under him, leaving him hanging like, well, yes, like
a man stuck in a tree on the side of a cliff.
	   (Page 143, Orb Books edition).

Given that Robinson's Orange County of the future owes at
least a little bit to TP's semiconductor vision of the area
in COL49, I thought this a nice one-off homage.

	   Cheers, Erik
