(I swear, I am trying to limit myself to direct comments on P or MD, 
but it just comes out)

I have heard that the word "cracker" is derived from "whip-cracker". 
In that context it is predictable that pea brained southern pols 
should embrace the term, and ironic that the State of Florida should 
deem it "hate speech". 
Of course, such a provenance might take all the fun out of it.
