credibility of ****s' reports

I'm on vacation and generally far away from email so I've not
been following this thread too closely but I'll make the following
comments:

1) One way to establish credibility is to look at the aspects of
a person's claims which can be verified - It is easy to demonstrate
that once a person makes false or questionable statements then that
person is likely to be making a lot of false or questionable
statements - The archives of Pynchon-l provide a good deal of
solid documentation from a good number of people on this matter

2) When somebody says "Trust me" you better check twice - I would
suggest that those who might be concerned about the "facts" in
question check the sources themselves

3) When the person in question makes statements like "only Doug
and Peter are interested in this issue" that should be a red flag for
everybody - The archives indicate a very, very different scenario

4) Some people are discussing this issue out of a general interest
in pynchon scholarship - Others are discussing these issues because
they are attempting to "cash in" - Again, rational people can read
the archives and make a decision
