1) I would just like to apologise for spelling "cafes" as "cafe's",
but my spell-check programme does some nutty things.
Also I often post to this list some hours after my brain
has shut down many of its vital functions. Sorry.
2) On p92, Mason explains the movements of Venus, the
planet of Love, who has "gone through phases like the Moon,
ever against the black face of Eternity. But on the day of this
Transit, all shall suddenly reverse,---as she is caught, dark,
embodied, solid, against the face of the Sun,---a Goddess
descended from light to matter."
If we think of Venus as signifying Love, one of several
possible readings, there a few interesting
implications the conceit which might follow.
Clearly love goes through its phases, "like the Moon", and we
humans of both sexes, are rather tidal in our Emotional waves.
.
Human love, as we know it, is bound to and set off against
the fact of our individual mortality, and our place in life's
Cycles Eternal, which in our lovemaking and childmaking
we play a part..
Perhaps the transit is akin to those special transformational
occasions of Love which catalyses and crystallises.
The strike of Cupid's mad and immortal arrow into all too
weak and mortal flesh---the strange revolutionary moments
of Love. The meeting of eyes or the wonderment of a kiss
out of which grows too much to be quite believed, that which
may eclipse our ordinary relations, and spark the remaking,
re-ordering of our lives.
But is it not also true that whenever light energy turns into matter,
or matter is changed into light, there is an enormously destructive
explosion? So Love materialising in these special moments
which Eclipse our normal lives is also, potentially, an enormously
destructive phenomenon. The Death card in the Tarot pack.
Love the Creator, Love the Destroyer.
Perhaps our Venus ought to hold an Axe, like Ogun, the
Yoruba God of Creativity.
