The future of the list?

I agree that the list has grown mighty tedious in the last four months.
I found Koop occasionally funny, as I do Metalwerke, and Steely was
educational, if irritating, which is pretty much how I see Jules.
Before we try moderation, however, I'd like to propose a differant sort
of self-regulation. If the SNR is going down, and you can't do much about
the noise, you boost the signal. My recollection is that these flame wars
and rabbit trails pop up when there isn't much traffic, and do die down
when more interesting ideas start bouncing around.
So, my request (which I'll try to follow, myself) is that if you start
seeing too much noise, go home, pick up one of the books, or an old
PN, or churn through the archive, find something to say about the man
or his works, and post it, even if you don't think you have the time.
It's what we owe the list. That way, we don't have to silence the
dunderheads, *all* of whome have made real contributions at times.
