Maybe it'll help us all chill out a little and keep things in perspective if
we remember that:
[1] _M&D_ is both a longer and in some respects more baffling novel than
_GR_ was [esp. since _GR_ was not new to many of us when the discussion on
that novel began];
[2] for most .edu people on the list this is the summer break time, so
unless they happen to be working their heads off in those intensive,
accelerated summer courses, quite a few are off and away to parts unknown;
[3] so far, while many [most?] of the list members have expressed sheer
delight with _M&D_, another segment of this little cyber-community have
found it hard to get into the novel, are still "slogging" though it, and are
grappling with their own sense of boredom or disappointment, hoping it'll
dissipate as we go on with M&D_.

So do I. But I also believe it may help us get along better, and make the
list a more enjoyable experience for many, if we all acted with just a touch
less arrogance toward one another.
