Don't know what regional/dialectal meaning this might have [but could ask
around].  In standard Italian, "sfare" means "to undo" or "unmake" or even
"do in" -- goes back to Dante and possibly earlier.  "Siena mi fe',
disfecemi Maremma," is a line from the Purgatorio [V, 133].  Eliot rings
changes on it in "The Waste Land" -- Pynchon does him one better and takes a
"high art" word down to the streets.  I'm thinking dialects, too, because
the form Pynchon uses is unusual [in my limited knowledge, that is].
