Dear Pynchon-listers,
As about half the board of the Programme for International
Pynchon Studies are on the Pynchon list, I would like to be able
to use the Pynchon list as one vehicle to disseminate the PIPS
Electronic Newsletter, appearing 8 times per year (about each six
weeks).
This would be sent in a few long-ish parts. Anyone who is not
on the Pynchon-l will of course be sent the PIPS E-Newsletter
separately.
The Newsletter will have two parts: the intial posting, and an
edited posting of responses from PIPS members about issues raised
in the Newsletter about four days later. The Newsletter is thus ment
to be partly interactive.
This Newsletter will cover information related to 1) International
Pynchon Week, 2) other Conferences and Journal Special Issues
relating to Pynchon, 3) the upcoming PIPS seminar series, including
details of available lecture fees and provision for London accommodation
for visiting scholars, and ongoing travel bursaries for Graduate students,
4) an introduction to the extent of secretarial and academic assistance
available to PIPS members through the PIPS office,
5) other information useful to academics with a special interest
in Thomas Pynchon.
If anyone thinks that the Newsletter should be kept off the list
please contact me and I'll consider arguments. I can certainly see
that some or much of the information will not be of general
interest to non-academics on the Pynchon-l, or even to academics
who simply do not want to know or see too much about the day
to day work of PIPS.
If it is decided that the PIPS newsletter should be posted
only off-list directly to PIPS members, I will ask list members
who DO wish to recieve the PIPS newsletter to let me know
who they are, so that I can add them to the mailing list I will need
to create.
There will be PIPS and IPW homepages, and they
should be up within a few weeks.
Trying to self-moderate with a little help from
your comments,
Eric
