We, here at Small Towne Libraries, Inc., just received a very fascinating
book for
those who wish to pursue further information about St. Helena.
It's the "World Bibliographical Series" vol. 197, entitled "St. Helena,
Ascension,
and Tritan da Cunha".
ISBN: 1-85109-272-2
Published by ABC-Clio, Ltd.
Old Clarendon Ironworks

England
(gotta LOVE that address!)
Included is the passage:
"Insula D. Helenae sacra coeli clementia et aequabilitate soli ubertate
et acquarum salubritate nulli secunda, sed inhabitata hic receptus
navium ex Or. India.. sita in altitudine 16 graduum, ad austrium
linae aequinoctialis.."
which was written in 1596 and translates:
"The island of St. Helena is second to none for its pleasant and equitable
climate and refreshing water, but it is ninhabited. This ship has arrived
from the East Indies... the island is situated 16 degrees to the south of
the equator."
Wow... I found it interesting to know that St. Helena was uninhabited... so
there
were no native peoples on the island at all..
ps. hope this was ON topic
*grin*
