You may be remembering another children's story, which in the best known 
USA version is called _The Five Chinese Brothers_.  But they don't cross 
the ocean.  They are identical but each has a special physical talent that 
allows them as a team to outwit the unfair court system. It does have 
memorable pictures.  I think it's based an an old Chinese tale that had 
seven brothers rather than five.
