Sojourner sez:

Thus, I
had the time and solitude to read such a magnus opus as GR.
I was struck instantly by this book, which I partly read due to the lunatic
praise of my batty friend. The prose seemed dense, jungly, almost
impossible
to comprehend. The characters were developed and then dropped (aka
Pirate).
In essence, it was not a very good "story".

As a P-lister since '94, I think that one becomes somewhat jaded. After
all, notwithstanding the present downpour of threads regarding moderation,
Jules (pro and con), gender unfriendliness, etc., I have learned quite a
lot about Pynchon and his works during this time, much more than I ever
would have had I just stuck to the critical literature. And had a lot more
fun at it too.

So, it's quite refreshing when something like Sojourner's comes
along...reminds me why I am on this list in the first place, and helps me
keep in perspective the the sense of awe when I first discovered TRP .

Maybe we just need a deluge of new subscribers to keep us honest here.

Let's do a little more sharing. If this isn't a good idea in your
opinion, please let me know.

Actually, I think this was done about a year ago...where many, many listers
made their introductions? It couldn't hurt to do it again.
