hi john,
it's me again, bernd from germany ... how's life?! since i am now a member
of the club ... of the unemployed, i'm planning to apply for a
habilitation-grant ... let's see if it works out ... i would like to do
something on 'road fiction' ... on novels such as on the road, lolita, blue
highway etc., and line it up with the road movie genre, the road metaphor
in american painting (hopper?) and pop culture (springsteen?) ... thus, on
the road as an important metaphor for the 'american epic,' starting with a
historical survey, leading back to the frontier myth, the railroad etc. ...
now, as always when i'm contacting you, i have a question ... do you have
any suggestions concerning books, paintings etc., cause at the moment i'm
collecting material, scanning stuff ... also, any suggestions of points of
interest which to pursue? or, do you know if such a thing as my project
indicates already exists ... or any similar books of reference? about the
'history of the american road/highway'? it would be nice if you could think
about it for a moment and let me know ... thanxalot
for your help ... hope to hear from you again ...
cheers,
bernd
