This atheist gets the shivers from the Anglican Book of Common Prayer, 
"In the midst of life we are in death."  And then there's that "He not 
busy being born is busy dying," from Dylan.  I find Pynchon spelling out 
the Anglican line for us, so to speak, while leaving the Franciscan and 
the Dylanite lines to be inferred if the reader thinks fit.

Seems reasonable.
