Them

I recently watched 1982's "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" (notable for Steve
Martin shaving his tongue), wherein through the magic of editing Martin
seems to interact with stars of the past.  The movie includes the
following conversation when Rigby Reardon (Martin) and Carlos (Reni
Santoni) are watching Ava Gardner: 

Carlos:  They say "she is one of Them."
Reardon: Who is "Them"?
Carlos:  Only They know who is Them.

Don't think about it too much--it just gets confusing.
