TRP on Booknotes

He wasn't a guest, isn't gonna be a guest,-- he was just mentioned.
After striking out waiting to hear TRP mentioned on a couple recent radio
programs, I was surprised to hear our man mentioned on last night's
Booknotes (C-SPAN) program. The interviewee was Jill Krementz, probably the
most prolific photographer of writers.
Brian Lamb asked her if she's ever been turned down by a subject. She
didn't really answer, but went on to say that she wouldn't dream of even
asking a subject that she knows doesn't want to be photographed (and isn't
being coy), such as J.D. Salinger or Thomas Pynchon.
And then a few moments later she told a story: about having told friends of
William Shawn that she would love to photograph him. And would give the
negatives to him straightaway, as thanks for the privilege of taking them,
for him to use however he saw fit,-- and how that kind of patience and
readiness eventually resulted in a photo session with him.
Which I took to be an indirect offer to JD and Tom.
