check out the scene where M&D are fishing--actually it's their last time 
together.  the LED the next morning apparently whispers into each's ear, 
that he will be with them when they meet again--something a bodhisattva 
or christ-like figure will say, huh?
Also, the fishing theme at the end when Mason's kids are telling him on 
his death bed--we'll go to the places you went...and we'll fish, and 
you'll be there, too.  ties nicely together, doesn't it?  a thread of 
redemption, salvation?
I think M&D are smiling down upon what has been created from their sad 
lives.

P.S.  Tony Blair is from County Durham--think Dixon's accent would be 
similar to his?
