One last loogie hawked into the well of debate:
>The extinction of Smallpox
>
>The World Health Organisation will destroy the remaining stocks of the
virus that causes smallpox,
>which in 1980 was declared the first disease to be wiped off the face of
Earth. The move follows 10 years
>of intense debate in scientific and political circles over what will be the
first deliberate annihilation of a
>species.
>
>The decision to destroy the stocks on June 30 1999, was taken by the 190
delegates of the United Nations
>agency's main decision-making body. One of the batches of virus is kept at
the Centres of Disease
>Control at Atlanta, Georgia, and the other at a virology research centre at
Koltsovo, near Novosibirsk,
>Russia.
>
>The WHO will keep 500 000 doses of vaccine, as well as the seed virus, a
relatively harmless form of
>smallpox from which the vaccine is produced.

There's yer answer as to its current situation. My understanding was they
had one at NIH too in Bethesda, but I may have been wrong or it may have
moved. Either way, its scary to think ONLY the gov't has smallpox. Because
as we all know, the government doesn't like to keep (bad) things to itself.
