According to the London Encyclopaedia:-

John Dolland was born into a Huguenot family in 1706 and opened a small
optical workshop in Vine St. Spitalfields in 1750, later moving to the sign
of the Golden Spectacles in the Strand.  Lord Nelson bought a telescope
from his firm in 1805.  The Duke of Wellington was also a customer.


Dolland & Aitchison is a chain of opticians in London (all over Britain?). 
Aitchison joined late C19.
