CNN

My comment concerned only the nature of the CNN's story, not how it
originated. Pynchon is a serious writer. Some book reviewers have taken
M&D seriously and have written about it with understanding and style, but
it's difficult to imagine a U.S. mass media news outlet treating Pynchon in
any sort of depth, or with any sort of sensitivity, outside of the book
review realm, where the tendency is to tabloid treatment of "newsmakers" or
"celebrities". It's hard to imagine that's what the Pynchon/Holt PR
machine intended in this case, if in fact they were the originating source
for the CNN story.
