     JULES SIEGEL WROTE:

It doesn't matter whether or not it originated with his press agents.
It was there general campaign to bring him to the attention of the
mass media that aroused the interest. When you advertise on national
radio, you are not exactly keeping a guy in the litary cocktail party
zone, are you? Once there's a best seller, the author become sjust
another celebrity. That's what I meant when I said he should have
stayed with Epoch. It's absurd to argue that the media should change
their habits to suit the interests of a
formerly obscure but successful author, no matter how great a guy he
     might be.

You're right in saying that Holt can't be blamed for trying to sell as
much books as possible. But TRP should have known that by switching
from Epoch to Holt, he would be much more "visible" in the media.
I've got this sneeking supsicion that TRP knew what he was getting
into when he switched to Holt. He could have stayed with them or
choose another smaller, less market-driven publisher.
