I know someone mentioned Second Street in Philadelphia--but I get a
definite feel here that the phrase "Second-Street Chippendale" is meant to
imply inferior quality. Was Philadelphia's Second Street known for
furniture knock-offs?
> 15.31 `Motrix' = matrix (this spelling is repeated several times)
At the cited appearance ("Dixon. . .finds himself laughing without the
Motrix of honest Mirth. . .") it seems it could be a variant of "motive."
I'm not sure where else this word appears so I can't check this hypothesis
against other occurences.

I think deliberate--Pynchon may be showing Mason's inability to recreate
Dixon's speech correctly.
My apologies if these have been done to death and I missed it--and thanks
to Andrew for the great job putting all this together.
