Designations

Steve Maas comments:
"I find it a little ironic that although in the book Mason and Dixon take
pains to correct those who refer to them both as surveyors or both as
astronomers, the very dustcover itself refers to them as ". . .the British
surveyors. . . ."  I'd have thought that Pynchon would've carefully
reviewed that dustcover writeup."


But in the text, Mason becomes more of a surveyor and Dixon more of an
astronomer.  Like the question of whether Pitt or Pliny is "the Elder,"
Pynchon throws such designations and definitions in question.
