I didn't think it was necessarily unfounded. Chrissie knew him better than I
did. I also added my own more generous take on the issue, in which I said he
was probably just joking around but that she still might have been on to
something.

If he were an anti-semite, I wouldn't have known too much about it, would I?
She was Catholic like him and they both had Irish-American mothers. It would
have been much easier for him to have revealed himself to her than to his
Jewish friend.

One can have Jewish friends and still be an anti-semite, odd as that might
seem. It happens to me all the time here in Mexico. They usually aren't
exactly anti-semites but they do believe that Jews have all the money and so
on. They want to talk with me about this because they are so innocent it
kind of makes you want to cry. Even nice people can be anti-semites, you know.

Anita, my beautiful wife, still has many unconsciously anti-semitic
attitudes to this day. When I point one or another out to her, she realizes
how much her family scorned Jews and how much they detest her for having
married one.

>But please, the implied disrespect to your co-authors and others of
straightfacedly offering this *reason*

He didn't tell me not to write about him when I gave him the chance, but he
sure did tell the world that he didn't want his picture published. I had a
lapse of judgment and made an offer I regretted. I thought about it and
decided it wasn't the right thing to do. That's the reason.
