Wow, great stuff! And some really good careful readings. I think you
are dead right about the table and the hidden drawers. I knew there
had to be something to that Wand'ring Heart motif but I could not get
my head round it. If GR was Pynchon's Moby Dick then this is his
Confidence Man.

Hey, and while we are on the subject of Cards and Card Tricks I'll
note that Pynchon's Hanged Man, the Revd Wicks Cherrycoke, appears on
the Card 1 of a 78 Card pack, err . . .
