In a strange sort of Pynchonian series of connections right after I read
Doug's comments on Gary Webb I went into the NandO Times to find
that Gary is in the news today:

(The following is pulled from an AP wire story:)
 An investigative reporter who linked the CIA to crack cocaine
sales in the United States says he was told he would lose his
job unless he stopped working on the series.

Gary Webb of the San Jose Mercury News said Wednesday
that newspaper management pulled him off the "Dark
Aliance" series, published last summer. He also said the
newspaper is transferring him from the state capital to the
small suburban bureau of Cupertino, 150 miles away.

"This is just harassment," Webb said. " This isn't the first time
that a reporter went after the CIA and lost his job over it." [.....]
