to tell you the truth,
i haven't heard so much sanctimony since the legal deposition of the girl i
was accused of date-raping my sophomore year of college. Granted, i did in
fact slam the door on her once i had her in the room--but that was only
because of the pile of laundry on the floor that was blocking my way: i had
to over-extend to reach the door, and consequently (only able to get two
fingers around its edge), had to employ a hip-swivel technique to generate
the requisite torque. The door slammed: setting off a chain of unfortunate
associations in the girl's mind, assorted mnemonic brutality, vestiges of
repressed eros, projections of future conjugal renunciations . . . i don't
know. i can't speak for her. i only know that she favored sequins, and had
come to the college on a dance scholarship--modern dance, mind you. She
called it the 'hermeneutics of aboriginal pelvic-gyration.' She was a smart
girl; her Dad owned Exxon.
Much later, the school psychiatric-counselor asked me what i thought of
violence, and sex. i remarked that i thought that the violent aspect of sex
was a manifestation of Desire's own intention--indeed, its Desire--to
overcome itself: to not be contingent on another. Likewise, sex is an
attempt to escape sexuality. She asked me what i though of women; I said
that only the woman's pleasure is important. But what if her pleasure, her
desire, is to be victimized, to suffer, perhaps, for the children she's yet
to have? I asked her if she knew of a Court that would back me on this one.
p.s.: to Henry Harmonika. Sir, exactly what class in writing, or
literature, do you teach? Is it by any chance called "Ecstatic Hackdom?"
