Back again, naturally

Hello, friends--after a lovely week on Block Island ("The Bermuda
of the North", which makes Maine Cuba or sumpin), I'm back online
and facing 600+ messages, mostly from the p-list.  What glorious
pain!  Anyhow, I read 700 pahes of M&D midst bouts of sunning and 
hiking and feel fully comptent to be as baffled as the rest of
you now.  Thanks to those who alluded to my alternate world story
recently, in which Alice Sheldon (better known as James Tiptree)
ran the CIA.  Which somehow brings me to this puzzler:  is the 
shotgun marriage of one "Tom" (Hynes?)
in M&D a parable of our own Tom's matrimonial experiences?
