What is it that would lead any person, well versed in the writings of T.
Pynchon, to believe that he would use a single word improperly or in any but
the most intentional manner with the most well considered of meanings??
Consider why we love his work...it is not sloppy, it is ultimately all of a
piece. Whether we can find the reason or the meaning of a seemingly
anachronistic word or phrase or image, does not mean that within the mind of
Mr. Pynchon and the scope of his work a meaning or reasoning does not exist.
He is absent from our world only in a personal sense...he is present in
ours in his work. Through his work, we can be present in his world on a
personal level that no photograph or interview can ever supply.
