     Sean Klein asks:

     >Is this "The Loved One" the same as the Evelyn Waugh book of the same
     >name?

It is. Both the novel and the film, adapted by Terry Southern and
Christopher Isherwood, and directed by Tony Richardson, are delights.
The high points of the film, btw, being the sight of a blond-haired
Rod Steiger jiggling around in a bikini, and the (climactic?) rocket
launch. (Right, Don?) It's been a while since I've seen it on the
screen at the late lamented Theatre 80 St. Marks. I don't remember
     the details quite exactly.

The film is available for purchase on videotape through MGM/UA Home
Entertainment. They do not handle retail queries, though, so be
forewarned. (The # is 310-449-3000.) Consumers are advised to use
their local video distributors to arrange purchase.

Chris, who loves Mr. Waugh like you wouldn't be-lieve
